About Me

My name is Georganna Rapaport, and I am a full-time school teacher in a small community along the Front Range of Colorado. I have five years of teaching experience and 42 (yikes!) years of life experience. Previously, I worked in the business world as a marketing manager.

A few things I am most curious about:

  1. I want my students to feel empowered to take control of their learning.  This is what I work the hardest on each and every day, so I’ll probably write a lot about it.
  2. I am fascinated by the art of leadership.   How best to lead?  What makes an effective leader? How can I learn to lead?
  3. Psychology…. the science of behaviors, our mind, and how to make it all come together to improve life.
  4. Reflection.  Looking back to be better moving forward.

I am originally from the Southern Tier of Upstate New York. My love of learning came from my Mom who was a school teacher. She also taught me the art of caring for others which is a wonderful thing to say you do well. My work ethic and generosity came from my dad who never went to college but is a highly successful business owner. He put four children through private school and college; he is my inspiration. I am the oldest of four siblings. Today we live many miles apart, which is one thing I wish I could change.

After graduating from a small private high school, I was ready to stretch my wings. I wanted to go south (have you ever lived through an Upstate New York winter?) and to a big school. I found home in Blacksburg, VA at Virginia Tech. My freshman year I met my future husband, Darren, whose drive, loyalty, bravery, and strength in the face of adversity inspire me every day. Cliche, so what, he truly is my best friend. We are coming up on 20 years of marriage!

Darren and I have two children, Brennan, 14, and Hayden, 11. I love to share my passion for learning with them. They help me to see learning through the eyes of my students. Caring for my family is the best thing I do.
